some people should get it, but they don't

the other day i picked up 7yo from school and was loading him into the van when the window of the giant suburban, sitting in the handicap spot next to us, rolled down. inside was the mom of an (able bodied) kid in my son's class. she had no placard, no plate... she had no reason to be parked there.

she was smiling, chatting on the phone and then after she got off the phone she started chatting to me. she told me how much her daughter adores my son. i was very happy that our kids are friends and that her daughter is open and caring about her friend with special needs.

but, i was floored and couldn't say anything. sometimes it's easier and less disappointing when people are ignorant jerks. i can be harsh with them. but here is a kind, blonde, light and shiny mormon, who cares about my son and yet, she is parked in the disabled spot for no reason, except to wait for her daughter.

she should get it.

but, she just didn't get it. at all.

good try, but no

had a placard. a temporary one. that expired a LONG time ago. i left a reminder note.

even more stupidity

i just don't have enough time in the day to take pics of all the abusers i see.

more stupidity

same old, same old. no plate. no placard. can't park between the lines...

yadda, yadda, yadda.

think before you park

this says it all.

GOT SOME 'SPLAININ' TO DO

These two go together.

This lady is parked in a disabled spot about 10 feet from the entrance to a place we go for therapy. She had no plate or placard and she was sitting in the car waiting for someone. Because she parked there... and all the other disabled parking spots were taken...

We had to park here...

The building we had to go to is the farthest building you can see in the distance. Trying to get a seven year old in a wheelchair safely through this busy lot to the access ramps is a total pain in the butt.

I really need to start carrying my video camera with me so I can tape every time I get into a run in with someone in a parking lot.

MORE, REALLY? YES!

I don't even have to caption them anymore!

They almost always fall into one of three categories:
a. can't park between the lines
b. no plate, no placard
c. blocking access

Sometimes, they do all three at once. Those people win a special award. Not really, they are just bigger dbags than everyone else.

STUPIDITY ABOUNDS

I've been saving them up! I can't even keep up with all the morons.

I only got into two rather minor altercations in the last couple of weeks. One Sunday morning at Costco, I told a little old lady that just because she had a disabled parking placard doesn't mean she can park blocking the access. She promptly hopped in her car and backed out, almost running over me and my three year old.

The other morning we had a terrible rain storm and when the bus came to pick up my seven year old, the lift on the bus wouldn't work. I ended up having to take my son to school. I HATE trying to drop him off or pick him up on normal days, but on a rainy day, FORGET IT! Every single disabled parking spot was filled. Not ONE car had a plate or a placard. I rolled down my window and reprimanded a lady who took the only available spot then got out and RAN through the rain with her daughter. She came back and cussed me out so I got out of my van and got into a shouting match with her. I was so angry I didn't even think to take a picture of this "woman" or her Jeep Cherokee. But, I will find her. Oh, yes. I KNOW I will see her again.

PUNISHING THE INNOCENT

A lovely example of how the Parking Whores are screwing over people who legitimately need handicap parking spots.

Seattle may impose parking time limits for disabled drivers:

STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES

I actually found this picture on Flickr and borrowed it to illustrate the stupidity of some people. The guy that posted this picture had the following photo caption:
"Come on! I realize this woman is handicapped and if that meant she really needed half a parking spot to park, or get out of her car then that would be fine. But its just not the case here. I've seen her park perfectly and walk out of a perfectly parked car just fine, this is just obnoxious. I had to risk my bike falling on some hapless neightbor's car because of her stupid parking."

He's bitching about the way this woman parked when he himself has parked his stupid scooter in the wheelchair access, completely blocking access to the sidewalk and anyone who needs to use a ramp van. Smooth move, idiot.

And yes, I did leave what I just wrote as a comment on his photo.

VIOLATE THIS

I am posting this picture of my van. Even I am a Parking Whore sometimes. In my defense, I only do it when I am forced into it by ridiculous circumstances, this being one. This picture was taken at a therapy center where many, many families who have children with special needs bring their children to receive various therapies.

There is ONE, yes, I said ONE, handicap parking spot. And, the spot is NOT van accessible. I am forced into parking across two parking spots so that I can even get my son out of the van to go to therapy. I can't get him out and then repark because this lot is very busy and so small that it is too hard manuever. I've asked/told the management about this problem several times with little or no response, aside from "Oh, that's too bad." Gee thanks, that response is ever so helpful.

STAY INSIDE THE LINES

If you are soooooo old that you cannot park inside the lines, then maybe you shouldn't be driving. This was submitted by my friend, JP, in Seattle.

THAT WAS OVER THE LINE

The lady that drives this pick-up works in the same office with all the other idiots who do not know how to park in between the lines. My office is in the same complex as their offices. She parks like this on an almost daily basis. I have also seen her jogging over to the other side of the complex where they have another office. I love that first she parks like crap and then one of the idiots brings the van back and also parks it over the line. Morons, I say.

NO PLACE FOR A SPACE

This guy is irritating because he parks against this curb every day. He has his handicap placard displayed, but he is blocking not only the fire zone but also the main entrance to the parking lot. He is the boss of the lovely idiots who park the big old ADOT van over the line and block access. There are regular spots about five feet from where he parks. He is awesome. Not.

HAVE TO LAUGH

I love Cafe Press...

OFFENDER OF THE DAY

Because of his crappy ass parking job, we had to wait 45 minutes for this lovely gent to return to his van. What really yanked my chain about this is that a. he had no reason to back in, b. the parking spots are huge so there is no reason he should be over the line at all, not even an inch. c. he was totally ambulatory. He walked right on out and was about to hop in and drive off when I stopped him and nicely but firmly gave him a piece of my mind. hopefully, he will think next time.
